God's Debris

My horoscope yesterday read "Feed your intellectually curious mind with debate. Challenge your own belief".

Interesting, when you take into account that Wilson the Handsome suggested that I read an e-book called God's Debris last night. He phrased his suggestion so.... suggestively, that I couldn't resist. His exact words were:

It's short but a nice little mind f*ck.

Well, how was I to resist? :D

The writer, Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame), describes this short as "a thought experiment". You know what experiments are. It's when someone plays around with something to get results. And boy does this one ever play around. :)

For a story that has so much depth, it's amazing how the story only centers around 2 characters. And when I say "centers" I d mean that there are ONLY 2 characters. Not even "a man that stood near the trash can waved at him" kind of thing. No. Only 2. Simple. In fact, it's so simple that the setting is 2 men sitting in a room, conversing.

That said, the topics of the conversations are hardly simple. It has to be read slowly, so you don't miss a thing. You need to roll it around in your mind, and savor it, think about it. (Sort of like when you're eating a piece of divine chocolate. You should never gobble it up. A chocolate, it never only chocolate, it's so much more. :D) Eventually, you'll probably hear a ding! or a light bulb will light up somewhere around the vicinity of your head, and you'll get what it's trying to say, then you'll get one of those "Ooooh!!!" moments. Trust me. :D

This story has interesting explanations (or rather, thought experiments) about the things that are around us everyday. Reality. Willpower. Light. Even God.

Now I should warn you, if you're offended by the idea of someone saying that God is a little different than what you were taught, do not read God's Debris. It might not be for you.

But then again, if you're confident in your faith, and you enjoy reading what-ifs, click here. And remember to savor it. You might have to read it a few times. And I believe that each time you read it, you'll notice something you haven't before. That's how it always is with good stories.

If you decide to read it, tell me what you think. :) It should prove to be a really good table topic.

Wow, the book seems a little too intelligent for my wee little brain to fathom, but I'll give it a look see ... :D

I loved it. I read it right after Scott Adams posted it as an ebook. Then I wrote a review of it on Amazon, and Scott Adams sent me a signed copy! It's on my shelf.

@Cindy: *laughs* I know what you mean. That's why I jumped at it when Wil suggested it.

@Nick: Oh, come now Nick, you're being modest. :P

@Rozella: You're welcome!

@Chip: Ooh! That is beyond cool! *sigh*
