Shop is Launched!

So.

My last post asked that you watch this space for news.

And here it is! The shop is all ready!

Our little online boutique is called Danau Designs, and we just launched it last weekend. It's tiring work, but fun.

At first, it was a little depressing to be shopping all the time but getting nothing for myself. But after awhile, I thought, "Shopping is shopping right?".

Right now the store has a small collection of tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes and accessories, but it'll grow once I make the time for hunting. I have to keep reminding myself that although I like fashion, my own personal style is not exactly mainstream, so just because I find something that I wouldn't wear/use, there a lot of people that might. So that few hours of hunting with my sister in Bandung was a good experience.

That said, I should introduce you to the stars of our store.








These are the Twist and Tie dresses. It's something that you can wear in a lot of different ways, depending on your mood or inspiration. Although we know quite a bit of ways to tie these babies up, we're pretty sure that there are some out there that we haven't figured out yet. And it's fun finding out. :D

What I've gathered from people who come to the store (yes, we're mainly an online store, but we do have a physical store for people to come in. I'll explain why in a bit) is that some people are a little bit intimidated by this garment. Maybe because they feel that having to think of how to style it a little bit of a hassle, as opposed to just putting on a shirt and walking out the door.

Here's what I say. It's no different than looking into your closet and trying to match pieces to make an outfit. :) With the Twist & Tie, it IS a wardrobe on its own. Looking at it is like looking at all the skirts, and tops and dresses that you own. So once shouldn't be intimidated. One should be psyched! Each time I look at my Twist & Ties, I wonder what new outfit I'll uncover. :D

So, with that, we've included How Tos to give you a general idea on how the Twist & Tie can be worked. They're really basic, these, and with a little creativity, you could end up with a totally different look - with only 1 extra knot put in the right place. :)







So, that's the big news. :) Quitting my job to do this full-time was a little scary, but I was at that point where if I didn't do it then, I'd have been stuck in a rut, not knowing when to let go. Growing up hurts. :P

But even though I'm liking it so much, there are good and bad days. Enjoying fashion does not equal fashionable, so my choices of pieces might make me seem like an idiot, but who cares. Someone out there must share my tastes. :P I just need to figure out how to reach out to them.

Right.

Let us address the elephant in the room shall we?

My absence of close to 2 years.

I realised that towards the end of my last blogging period, there were a lot of gripes and complaints. It didn't feel good to come back and read all that negativity, and I didn't want to continue posting such bleak proses. So I thought a break was just what this place needed.

In my absence, a lot has happened. Let us not dwell.

Let us instead anticipate the future! Oh, and what there is to anticipate. :D

I've just started a new project.

Clothing.

My (not so) newfound love of sewing and jewelery/accessory-making gave me the idea that I should make money from it all. It seems that it isn't as easy as pie when you want to do it on a slightly larger scale than the making-1-selling-1-making-2-selling-2 template that I had used before I graduated. Lots of things to learn, but hey, at least I'm having fun in the process. :D

So watch this space for more details.

John Mayer - Stop This Train

There are 3 reasons why I'm sharing this particular video with you.

First, because I think that this man has definitely improved as a performer.

Second, this song sums up what I feel about life right now. The train keeps moving no matter how much I want it to slow down so I can see the sights.

Third, this man is hot.

Waiting is hell.

Especially when what you're waiting for is your period.

Certain parts of my anatomy are... not feeling their best.

I wish it would just get here so the torment will be over.

PS: I just realised something. I'm brushing my teeth a lot more than usual these days.

New Books To Read

I've recently picked up Neil Gaiman's books, and I have to say I'm enjoying them thoroughly.

It's a good thing that The Boy has a whole bunch of books at his disposal, which in turn allows them to be in my disposal *laughs*. In truth, I haven't been hanging out in bookstores much lately, so this newfound treasure trove gives me the smileys.

I read Coraline, apparently a children's book (though I would not impose this book on ANY child, seeing how creeped out I was after reading it) and thought that it was a very good read. :D I'm in the midst of Anansi Boys, and only after reading it halfway through do I find it interesting (I mention this to The Boy, at which point he says "You have to read American Gods first la!". Hmmph. Now he tells me.) There are a few other books by Gaiman lying around, so I'm thinking I'll go through his whole collection.

One series of books that I never thought I'd read is the Warhammer 4000. Now, I'll read anything that's well written, really, but this? We shall have to see. The Boy has been pushing me to read it since... sometime ago.

We'll let it wait.

I'm learning to pace my reading, so I don't end up with no books at all by the end of the week.
